Curriculum Vitae

Born 6.12.57 in Kampala, Uganda, Varsha Nair studied Painting at Faculty of Fine Arts, Maharaja Sayajirao University, Baroda, India. Inviting multidisciplinary collaborations her work encompasses various approaches and genres. She has exhibited internationally, and initiated projects engaging diverse practitioners in rural and urban communities including in India and in Thailand where she lived till 2019. Since 1997 as co-organiser of Womanifesto – an international art exchange in Thailand, Varsha has been instrumental in setting up projects that stretch beyond the traditional model of biennial exhibition-making to produce intergenerational and cross-disciplinary workshops, a multi-authored art publication, and a digital exhibition. Her writings have been published in various journals such as n paradoxa, Southeast of Now: Directions in Contemporary Art in Asia, Art AsiaPacific, and Ctrl+P Journal of Contemporary Art of which she is Editorial Board member. Invited to speak at various events, most recently she presented the key note at the symposium ‘In Light of Crisis: the Fraught Significations of Contemporary Biennales’, held at University of Zurich. Varsha currently resides in Baroda, India, and since 2018 is a mentor for Masters of Arts Program at HSLU Lucerne.
